Questions

Short, honest answers. Where the answer depends on your situation, we say so instead of quoting an average.

Start a conversationWhat is an EMS?

What is an EMS, and why do I need one on top of a home battery?

A home battery usually comes with one strategy: maximise self-consumption. That is one fixed setting, nothing more.

An EMS decides, from measurements and forecasts, what should happen: store or use, the water heater now or later, the car more slowly, step in to avoid a peak. The more controllable devices you have, the bigger the difference.

Can I charge in summer and use that power in winter?

No. This is the most persistent misunderstanding about home batteries, and it deserves a proper answer.

A 10 kWh home battery covers about half a day of a household's consumption. To keep a summer surplus until December you would need hundreds of kilowatt-hours, in a cabinet the size of a garage, which would also lose energy month after month.

A battery works on a daily cycle: charge during the day, use in the evening. That is what it is good at, and that is where the return sits. Moving energy from summer to winter needs other technologies, and for a home those are not economic today.

What is the difference between EMS and ESS?

An ESS makes battery and inverter work together. An EMS decides across your whole building, including devices that have nothing to do with the battery.

Almost every offer contains an ESS. The decision layer above it is what most offers do not contain.

Does the system work during a power cut?

Yes, for the circuits designed for it. You choose in advance what comes along: lighting, fridge, internet, heating.

Keeping your entire home running is a different and more expensive design. We say in advance which circuits are feasible within your budget.

What happens if the internet drops?

The control logic runs locally in your building, not in a data centre. If the internet drops, your rules keep working on the last known data.

What falls away temporarily is remote monitoring and fetching new price and weather forecasts.

Can I follow my installation in an app?

Yes. You see production, consumption, state of charge and what the system decided.

An app shows what happens; the control logic sits underneath and keeps working even if you never look.

Does this work with Home Assistant?

Yes. We work with open protocols such as Modbus and MQTT, so connecting to Home Assistant or another open platform is possible.

Exactly what works depends on the devices you have. We check that in advance rather than discovering it afterwards.

How much will I save?

That depends on your consumption profile, your peaks, your solar production and which devices are controllable. Anyone promising you a figure after one conversation is guessing.

We calculate on the quarter-hour data from your digital meter. With that we can show what a lower peak and higher self-consumption are worth in your case.

Can I add batteries, panels or devices later?

We design for it. The expansion path is an explicit choice when sizing: which inverter, which phasing, how much room in the cabinet.

A new device is then taken into the same logic instead of becoming another island with its own app.

Is there still a subsidy for a home battery?

In Flanders the home battery subsidy no longer exists. Today the business case comes from self-consumption, peak reduction and smart control, not from subsidy.

Subsidies and tariffs change regularly. Ask us for the state of play at the moment you decide.

Can I contact you while our house or building is still being designed?

Please do, and that is the best moment. During design, the right choices still cost nothing.

Think of the place and size of the technical room, cable routes, the phasing of the connection, where the charge point goes, which circuits need backup, and whether the roof is ready for more panels than you plan today. After the shell is built, each of those becomes demolition work.

At that stage we work alongside your architect or installer and supply the technical starting points.

Do you install solar panels as well?

Yes. We design and install the complete system: panels, inverter, battery, cabling and cabinet, with inspection and registration with the grid operator included.

If you already have panels, we build on them. The inverter is often where the choice between extending and replacing falls; we work that out for you.

I want to buy a new air conditioner, water heater or other appliance. Should I contact you first?

Yes, that is always a good moment, and it costs you nothing.

Two things decide what such an appliance is worth in your installation later: how efficient it is, and whether it has an interface an EMS can talk to. Modbus, MQTT, a documented API, or at least a switching contact.

Two appliances that look the same on paper differ sharply in this. Pick one without an interface and it stays an island with its own app that never takes part in the control.
